The Global Antibiotic Research and Development Partnership (GARDP) is a Swiss not-for-profit organization developing new treatments for drug-resistant infections that pose the greatest threat to health. GARDP was created by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) in 2016 to ensure that everyone who needs antibiotics receives effective and affordable treatment. GARDP aims to develop five new treatments by 2025 to fight drug-resistant infections.
GARDP mobilizes partners to develop new and improved antibiotics. In partnership with governments, the private sector, academia and civil society, it embraces innovative solutions to antibiotic resistance.

GARDP was established in 2016 by the WHO and DNDi to deliver on the Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance. After five years in operation, GARDP has already built a pipeline to tackle sexually transmitted infections as well as infections in hospitalized adults and children, including newborns with sepsis (a bloodstream infection). It has formed over 60 partnerships in 22 countries that span governments, the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries, research institutions, non-profits, and civil society.

Challenges

Solution

Nexell was recommended to GARDP by DNDi. After reviewing GARDP’s needs and objectives as well as providing consultation to segment GARDP’s database, Nexell recommended Salesforce’s Non Profit Success Pack (NPSP) with a particular focus on institutional fundraising and process management. As GARDP’s activities are focused on developing new treatments, the initial process was focused on the Business Development (BD) projects to develop partnerships with third parties. Once the partnerships are signed, the projects are managed by the R&D team, which mainly runs Phase III clinical trials with private and public partners as GARDP is a late-stage development organization.

REVIVE is GARDP’s online knowledge sharing platform on AMR that includes webinars. Nexell created a process so that webinar attendee details can be integrated in Salesforce. Some of this work, as well as the initial data transfer and training time to empower GARDP users, was done using pro bono hours from Nexell’s COVID initiative.
The donor forms were done using the Donorbox tool and Nexell also collaborated with a consulting firm in the UK for the subscription forms. The backend of the subscription form was built by Nexell and the online donor form was plugged into the solution by Nexell. The donation form is available on the website via DonorBox. MailChimp and Cazoomi have also been integrated.

Result

Prior to GARDP’s collaboration with Nexell, there was an IT team with an administrator for GARDP’s system. Now each business has one super user, meaning the support structure is more diffused and horizontal. All of the super users have direct access to Nexell. This arrangement allows GARDP to be extremely agile and allows direct feedback and prompt resolution of issues as well as accelerate implementation of improvements.

Collaboration is possible between departments, allowing for seamless collaboration with stakeholders that are relevant to multiple departments. The contacts generated from the REVIVE webinars can be leveraged by the fundraising and operational teams to build new relations. Moreover, the R&D team has a better view on the BD team’s partnership projects and can follow those projects and plan accordindlyaccordingly. Because this process is proving to be so efficient and Salesforce is viewed as a cross-departmental platform, GARDP is now in the process of implementing a CTMS (Clinical Trial Management Software) solution, which will be integrated with Salesforce, as well as interfaced with its eTMF solution of Veeva, which are both key solutions to monitor its R&D activities.

GARDP now has a solution which fits its scale and needs. It was delivered in an extremely cost-effective way and has provided GARDP with an appropriate solution for a not-for-profit organization. The collaboration has been smooth and successful between all stakeholders and Nexell feels enormously proud of having been able to help this organization, which is committed to developing new treatments to save lives.
